IPL Hair Removal

IPL provides a gentle, safe, and effective solution to permanently remove unwanted hair, on almost any body area, with proven long-term results.

How IPL Hair Removal Works

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light, and it is a more modern and innovative light-based technology than laser. With IPL, the light beam is emitted over a broad spectrum of wavelengths, so a wider range of treatments can be performed safely and more comfortably across all skin types. Please note that all laser light treatments require a significant contrast in color between the skin and the hair, for best results. Dark hair on dark skin and fair hair on fair skin are not advisable.

The idea behind permanent hair removal using IPL is to destroy the individual hair follicles. Controlled pulses of light are absorbed by the pigment in the hair, and the heat is then transferred to the hair follicle, which is destroyed. Because the treatment is only effective in specific stages of the hair growth process, you’ll need a series of visits at set intervals to ensure you get the maximum result.

Sublime uses the latest technology combination IPL with Radio Frequency, in order to target the hair follicle more accurately and protect the skin at the same time.

IPL Skin Rejuvenation

IPL skin rejuvenation is a very effective solution to reduce the visible signs of photoaging like hyper-pigmentation and restore a more youthful and radiant appearance to the skin. It is successful on Fitzpatrick types 1 to 4 and provides women and men of all ages with a gentle, safe option. It is also beneficial for acne and scarring.

How IPL Skin Rejuvenation Works

A different setting and handpiece are used for Skin Rejuvenation. IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) removes sun damage in the superficial layers of the skin, while simultaneously delivering thermal energy to the deeper layers to stimulate regeneration of the skin.

Controlled pulses of light are delivered to the skin surface and absorbed by brown pigment (melanin) in age spots, freckles, and uneven pigmentation or red pigment (hemoglobin) in spider veins and diffuse redness. The target is heated up and destroyed, while leaving the surrounding skin unaffected. At the same time, the light pulses stimulate the production of collagen beneath the skin surface, which plumps out the skin, softening fine lines and wrinkles, and smoothing skin texture.

RF Skin and Body Treatments

Radiofrequency (RF) energy treatment is technology for non-surgical tightening of the early signs of loose or sagging skin; ideal for those people who either don’t want, or don’t believe they are old enough to have a surgical procedure.

How Radio Frequency Works on the Face for Tightening

Pure RF energy alone is primarily used to treat skin laxity by facial tightening and is best suited to patients with mild to moderate sagging of facial tissues, usually those in their mid 30s to 60s, with any skin color. It is commonly used to treat the forehead, under the eyes, cheeks, mid-face, jawline, and neck.

Based on current RF technologies, most people should see at least a mild improvement in their skin tightness, with minimal risks and downtime compared to surgery. Prices for radiofrequency facial tightening treatment depend on the area(s) treated.

IPL/Hair Removal Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a Candidate?

Ideal candidates for laser hair removal are those who wish to permanently remove hair on a specific area of the body.

What is Expected of Me Before My Treatment?

  • Your first discussion with a practitioner should clearly set out your expectations of the treatment so that you can find out whether the results you desire are achievable using this method of hair removal.
  • You may not wax, tweeze, or use a hair removal cream for at least 4 weeks prior to your first appointment, as this will reduce the success of your first treatment.
  • Please shave the area about 3 days before treatment, so that the follicle is targeted, rather than the hair itself.
  • Try to ensure that the area is clean and free from deodorant or other products.

What can I expect during the treatment?

During laser treatments, safety goggles will be placed over your eyes to protect them from excess light. Our machine has a built-in cooling system, which keeps the laser cool; therefore, a cooling product is not needed. We will apply a conductive gel to the area and then once the correct filter has been chosen, the practitioner will use a small handpiece to administer flashes of light to your skin. Most patients describe the procedure as completely comfortable, some may experience a slight tingling or warm sensation. Several treatments are required for laser hair removal due to the natural growth cycle of hair. It is best to catch the hair follicle early in the growing phase to maximize results. The procedure can take from 10-60 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated. Treatments can be repeated at monthly intervals for 6-8 treatments until the desired results are achieved. The number of IPL treatments depends on factors including the patient’s skin type, hair color, density, and location of hair. Top up treatments can be done if necessary after this for any stray hairs that come through.

What can I expect after my treatment?

The procedure will typically destroy between 60-90% of actively growing hairs at each treatment. IPL uses a broad spectrum of light, which means that it is appropriate for treating a wide range of hair colors and skin types. Only hairs that are in their growing phase are susceptible to the treatment, therefore a series of multiple treatments is usually required to effect long-lasting hair growth reduction.

Is there a recovery period required?

Laser hair removal is not invasive, so most people find that they can return to work immediately after treatment. The most you may notice is some redness in the area, but this is usually gone very quickly.

What is expected of me after my treatment?

  • You are required to avoid the sun whenever possible and wear sunscreen at all times.
  • Do not pluck, wax, or use hair removal cream between treatments. Shave only.
  • Avoid heavy exercise, steam rooms, or saunas for 24 hours.
